Creative Play with Gel Prints and Washi

 

Hello crafty friends!
Ericka from Strangely Creative here. I hope your holiday season is full of cozy moments and creative play. Today’s journal page came together in the best possible way. No plan, no pressure, just using what was already on my desk. I started with a leftover gel press print from a previous session using Lavinia inks. You know those prints that are too good to toss but don’t quite know what to do with yet? This was one of those, and it turned out to be the perfect foundation.

 

I paired that background with the Glacier Grace washi tape from AALL & Create. The cool tones and soft movement of the washi played beautifully against the gel print. To anchor everything, I added a simple gold frame for a touch of sparkle. Nothing flashy, just enough shine to catch the light.

Next came the fun part. I pulled out some doodles I had previously painted using leftovers from my Steampunk Soiree Magicals by Lindy's Gang. These little painted elements are perfect for journals because they add color, texture, and personality without overthinking placement. I layered in a few colorful paper scraps, drew a loose hand-drawn frame, and let the page evolve naturally.

 

To finish it off, I added a playful sentiment from the Funny Bone Funnies Ephemera by AALL & Create. I love ending a page with words that bring a smile. It keeps the whole piece lighthearted and fun.

 

This page is a great reminder that leftover prints and scraps are often where the magic happens. If it’s been sitting on your desk, it’s probably waiting to be used.
