Greetings! It's Tuesday so you've got Kathi here to share a project with you. I've had the itch to travel and explore for a while now, which has been thwarted. However, I can always imagine, right? I've had the Camel Travel and the Desert Mirage from the Art by Marlene Artsy Arabia collection by Studio Light for awhile now and decided it was time to use them to make this large card. I *think* I might have seen a similar scene on Pinterest or Instagram, but I can't recall who made it, but kudos to whomever are definitely deserved.
When you think of camels and the desert, you think of pyramids, lots of sand, and an oasis with some palm trees. I can't sketch for love or money, but I can use stencils, so I used the Totally Triangular Stencil by AALL and Create to make my pyramids. I also used two of the Acetate Hill Masks-Stencil by Lavinia Stamps to create my desert.
Here's the card.
The camel from the Camel Travel Stamp Set was stamped onto white cardstock and onto label paper which was fussy-cut and used to mask the camel on the image panel. One of the masks from the Acetate Hill Masks-Stencil was placed horizontally over the image panel to serve as a both a stencil and a mask. The Totally Triangular Stencil was placed over the mask and the appropriately named Desert Sands Memento ink was first brushed over the the hilly mask then over one of the triangles from the Totally Triangular Stencil to form the first pyramid. Post-It Notes were placed over the inked triangles, the triangle was moved, and a chain of pyramids were created. The same triangle was traced onto the top sheet of the Post-It Note pad, then five sheets were simultaneously fussy-cut.
The rest of the desert was created by brushing Desert Sands ink over one of the other Acetate Hill Masks-Stencils, shifting the mask, then inking again.
The stencils were removed, the fussy-cut Post-It Note triangles were placed over their counterparts as masks, and the buildings from the Desert Mirage were stamped in position on the image panel and onto label paper to mask the previous impression. When I was done, all elements were masked and I was able to brush blue and pink Memento ink onto the background to create the sky.
The masks were all lifted and reserved. The image panel was colored with Copic markers. Black glitter pen was used to accent the strings dangling from the camel's neck and connecting the blanket with the baubles.
Copic markers were used to add detail to the desert and the pyramids. The image panel was slightly trimmed, edged, adhered to patterned paper, then to a kraft card.
The sentiment, from the Destination Unknown Clear Polymer Stamp Set, was stamped onto patterned paper using Onyx Black VersaFine Ink by Tsukineko and heat set with sparkly black embossing powder. It was then die-cut and adhered to another die-cut. Red gemstones from the Diamond Sparkles Gemstones Festive Selection were used to finish the card.
