Numbers, Florals & Gold: A Mixed Media Card from Your Stash

Hello friends! Ericka from Strangely Creative here, and today’s card is one of my favorite kinds to make, using what’s already on your desk.

A little gel print, leftover Lindy’s Magicals, some embossing powder, and a touch of washi… that’s all it takes to build something layered and beautiful.

🎨 Starting with a Stash Background

I began with a gel press print from my stash created using PaperArtsy paints.

To add the first layer of interest, I stamped number images from the Mags Woodcock 003 using white ink. Then came one of my favorite techniques…

I sprinkled WOW! Embossing Powder in both gold and clear over the stamped areas and heat set it. This gives a subtle but beautiful shimmer and adds texture without overwhelming the background.

🌸 Adding Soft Florals

For contrast, I stamped floral images onto a book page and loosely watercolored them using leftover Steampunk Soiree Magicals. The soft, imperfect watercolor paired with the printed text creates that layered, slightly vintage feel I love. After fussy cutting, I adhered the flowers to the background to create my focal point.

✨ Finishing Touches That Pull It Together

To complete the card, I added:

  • A sentiment from the Blossom Sentiment from the same PaperArtsy set
  • A strip of Add It Up Washi Tape for a graphic element
  • A hand-drawn frame (always!)
  • A few gold pen accents to echo the embossing

These small details tie everything together and give the card a cohesive, finished look. Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope this inspires you to play with what you already have and create something beautiful.

Wishing you a wonderful Easter filled with creativity and a little peace. 💛🌸

Mixed Media - Lavender Plumed Bird

Hello!  We're focusing on Mixed Media creations this week at Topflight Stamps.  I made a card using paints, ink and embossing powder.  On a piece of white cardstock, I painted an ombre effect with two PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Paints:  Blah Mange and Sugar Plum.  When it was dry, I stamped the Creative Expressions Vintage Plume stamp with Versafine Clair Nocturne (black) ink.  While the ink was wet, I sprinkled on WOW! embossing powder in Platinum and hit it with a heat tool.  The effect is so cool!  Hopefully you can see it in the second card photo below.  On a separate piece of scrap cardstock, I stamped the Woodware Viola stamp with the same Nocturne ink.  Using a circle punch, I punched out two postmarks that were part of the Viola image, inked the edges, and attached to the card front.  A seam binding bow tied around the painted ombre panel was topped with one other piece of stamped ephemera I had on my desk.  Hope you have a terrific day! ~ Colleen

I made the background using Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays and Magical Shakers (ink crystals). I love the colors and bit of glimmer in them. I cut the clouds out of a Gel Press print from my stash and the fussy cut PaperArtsy bird stamp has been watercolored.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out the Topflight Stamps store for a wide selection of different and hard to find stamps, stencils and other paper crafting supplies from all around the world! Also keep an eye here on the Topflight Stamps blog. There is new inspiration posted often!

Decorated MemoryDex Box

It's Topflight Stamps Tuesday, the last day for you to participate in the Topflight Stamps 9th Birthday Blog Hop for the chance to win a great prize, AND it's also the last day of Topflight Stamp9th Birthday Sale

This week's theme is Mixed Media and I've used PaperArtsy's SnowflakeToffeeBoraBora, and Yellow Submarine Fresco Chalk Finish Acrylic PaintsMatte GlazeHot Picks Printed Tissue Paper 2 - Frames, and Squeezed Mattint Fresco Tint to decorate a premade Wooden MemoryDex box that was purchased so long ago that I can't remember where I got it!

Here's the front of it:

Here's one side:

Here's the other side:

Here's the back:

Use a foam brush to apply Snowflake Fresco Chalk Finish Acrylic Paint by PaperArtsy to all four sides, the bottom, the top rim, and the inside of the MemoryDex box.

Squeeze a small amount of Toffee Fresco Chalk Finish Acrylic Paint onto a craft mat. Use a foam brush to apply the Toffee Fresco Chalk Finish Acrylic Paint from the bottom edge of the all four sides towards the top.

Squeeze a small amount of BoraBora Fresco Chalk Finish Acrylic Paint onto the craft mat and use another foam brush to apply the BoraBora Fresco Chalk Finish Acrylic Paint to the top rim of the box and from the top edges of the box towards the bottom.

Replenish the BoraBora Fresco Chalk Finish Acrylic Paint and paint the inside of the MemoryDex box and the dowels.

When dry, paint the bottom of the box with the same colors.

Use a waterbrush to paint a border of water around the images you want to use from the Hot Picks Printed Tissue Paper 2 - Frames by PaperArtsy, then gently separate the images from the rest of the tissue paper.

Use another foam brush to apply a layer of Matte Glaze by PaperArtsy to one side of the box. Smooth one of the border pieces of tissue paper onto the wet Matte Glaze to adhere it to the box. Apply another layer of Matte Glaze to seal the tissue paper. Repeat this process to apply the tissue paper images to all four sides of the box.

Use a foam brush to apply Squeezed Mattint Fresco Tint by PaperArtsy to all four sides, the top rim, and the interior of the box to add additional color.

Squeeze a small bit of Yellow Submarine Fresco Chalk Finish Acrylic Paint to your craft mat. Use a stipple brush to add some splatters and splotches of yellow paint to the box.

Use a finger to apply Treasure Gold Wax to the box to add additional color and some shine to the box. Be sure to clean your finger between colors of Treasure Gold.

Place two-sided tape on the back of a piece of black cardstock. Use an alphabet die to cut the "MemoryDex" letters, then adhere them to the front of the box.

Brush another layer of Matte Glaze over all sides, the rim, and the interior of the box to seal it.

Here's a closer look at the cards I made for the Hops. The background was created using Lindy's Stamp Gang Magical Shakers – Under the Sea #2 set. I wet watercolor paper and then sprinkled on the powders. Very cool! The festive birthday washi tape is from AALL & Create as is the die set I used (Skycrossed Paradise).

From Gel Prints to Gorgeous: A Bold Birthday Card for the Topflight Celebration

Hello! Ericka from Strangely Creative here, and we’re keeping the party going with the Topflight Stamps Birthday Celebration 🎉

Today’s card is all about using what you already have—digging into your stash, layering prints, and turning them into something fresh and eye-catching.

I went back to one of my favorites: the Tracy Scott 105 from PaperArtsy.

What I love about this set is the flexibility:

  • You can build your own bold, layered flowers
  • Or use the smaller pre-designed elements for quicker projects

For this card, I kept it simple and let the color and texture do the work.

Start with Your Stash (Seriously)

Instead of starting from scratch, I pulled out gel prints I already had.

For the background, I used a print created with a texture plate (and quick tip—stencils give a very similar effect, so use what you have).

Then I found another print layered over printed paper and stamped my flower images right on top. This is one of my favorite ways to add instant complexity without extra steps.

✨ The Detail That Makes It Pop

Once everything was stamped, I grabbed my white gel pen and added:

  • Highlights to the petals
  • Small accents to break up the color
  • A little extra contrast to bring the flowers forward

It’s a small step, but it completely changes the look. Don’t skip it.

🎂 Finishing It Off

To pull everything together, I added:

  • A simple hand-drawn frame
  • A birthday sentiment to match the celebration

Done. Layered, colorful, and full of personality—without over complicating the process.

🎉 Don’t Miss the Celebration

We’re still celebrating over at Topflight Stamps, so make sure you:

  • Check out the full hop
  • Get inspired by the other designers
  • Grab your favorites while the birthday sale is happening

Thanks so much for stopping by and celebrating with us. Now go make something with what you already have. 💛
