Shimmer & Shine: A Starry Mixed Media Birthday Card

Hello, crafty friends!
Ericka here from Strangely Creative, and today I’m excited to share a quick and sparkly project featuring the fabulous Super Star stencil from Visible Image and a touch of golden glam with Spectrum Noir Glitter Paste in Candlelight Gold

I started with a moody background made from some gel press playtime—a mix of darker hues with hints of yellow that instantly reminded me of a dramatic starry night sky. The unexpected contrast set the perfect stage for a celestial-themed card.

To build on that theme, I layered the Super Star stencil over the background and carefully applied the Candlelight Gold glitter paste. Once dry, the stars truly shimmered, adding rich texture and a magical glow.

For the sentiment, I used the Happy Birthday strip from Darkroom Door, which I stamped and then attached with a bold pink staple for a fun pop of color and whimsy.

✨ And just like that—this card came together quickly but packs a punch of sparkle and personality!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope this quick project inspires you to get a little messy and magical in your own creative space.
Wishing you a weekend full of crafty joy and golden moments!

Starry Birthday

Hello!  This week at Topflight Stamps, we are sharing our star-themed creations. I've got a starry birthday card to show, which positively GLITTERS in person, thanks to Spectrum Noir Glitter Paste in Candlelight Gold and the Darkroom Door Starry Night Small Stencil.  The glitter paste is a dream to spread over a stencil, goes on easily and give such a 'wow' factor.  The background panel is navy, which is a good contrast for the gold stars.  The white panel was made with with a Crealies Stitched Rectangle, on which a sentiment from Visible Image Go To Words was stamped.  I finished it up with some gold star ribbon trim from my stash, and a few red stars.

Hope you have a wonderful day! ~ Colleen

Cats & Stars, Oh my!

Hello, Lisa Hoel here. This week at Topflight Stamps our theme is "Stars"! The store has a wide assortment of products that fit the bill. I chose a fun AALL & Create Stencil called Stars & Rays to use on my card. My favorite Katzelkraft stamp set, Cats, also makes an appearance.

I stenciled the background onto a Gel Press print with acrylic paint and then fussy cut a stamped image from the Cats set to layer over it. The Funny Bone Funnies sentiment certainly adds a humorous touch!

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out the Topflight Stamps store for a wide selection of different and hard to find stamps, stencils and other paper crafting supplies from all around the world! Also keep an eye here on the Topflight Stamps blog. There is new inspiration posted daily!

Wish...Dream...

Greetings! It's Tuesday so you've got Kathi here to share another project with you. This week our theme is Stars! Here's a link to Topflight Stamps' Sun/Moon/Stars category

Here it is!

Use a stamping platform and Nocturne VersaFine Clair Inks by Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko to stamp the Moon Fairy Clear Polymer Stamp by Lavinia Stamps onto Bristol Paper. Re-ink the stamp and stamp again if necessary to attain a good impression. Remove the image panel and heat set thoroughly.

Sponge or brush Blue Lagoon Elements Ink by Lavinia Stamps over the stamped image. Brush or sponge Dark Denim Elements Ink by Lavinia Stamps over the rest of the image panel. Brush or sponge Blue Lagoon Elements Ink again to create a smooth blend of blue ink.

Smoosh a Tide Bleach pen onto your craft mat to create a small puddle, pick up the bleach with a small paint brush, brush the bleach onto a small area of the moon, wings, and hair of the Moon Fairy stamped image, and pick up the blue ink with a tissue or a paper towel. Repeat until those areas are mostly white. Heat set the image panel and clean your brush.

Use shimmery white watercolor paint to paint the moon. Tap the paint brush to create shimmery white/silver splatter.

Use shimmery colored watercolor paints to paint her wings. Use a lavender watercolor pen to color her hair. Heat set the image panel.

Use a white gel pen to add white dots to the background to make brighter stars.

Use fine tip black pens to deepen the stamped lines that have faded a bit from the bleach. Use a black marker to deepen the black on her body. Heat set the image.

Add highlights to her hands, arms, legs, and back with a white chalk pencil. Use a cotton bud to soften the highlights.

Trim the image panel to 3.25" x 4.75" and edge with the Dark Denim Elements Ink. Adhere the image panel to a 3.5" x 5" card.

Add the sentiment sticker from the Uplifting Sentiment Stickers 6 by Lavinia Stamps to finish the card.

Shine Bright!

Greetings and Happy Memorial Day! You've got Kathi here today This week our theme is Stars! Here's a link to Topflight Stamps' Sun/Moon/Stars category!

But before I get my project, I'd like to remind you about the Memorial Day Sale that ends tonight at 11:59 P.M. EDT!

Here's my card created with the Kate Crane KC006 Cling Rubber Stamp Set and Eclectica ENB02 Rubber Cling Mounted Set by Nicci Battilana — both by PaperArtsy. I also used the Tag It Yourself Die Set 27 and the Frayed Frames Die Set 26 by AALL and Create as well as the Ink Drops - Vivid and the Grunge Mid Tones 6x6 Patterned Paper Pads by  Craft Consortium.

Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink by Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko to stamp the girl with stars from the Kate Crane KC006 Cling Rubber Stamp Set by PaperArtsy onto white cardstock and onto repositionable sticker paper. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version and place it over its counterpart on the image panel.

Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp the stand from the Kate Crane KC006 Cling Rubber Stamp Set underneath the masked girl onto white cardstock and onto repositionable sticker paper. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version and place it over its counterpart on the image panel.

Place a piece of repositionable tape across the bottom of the image panel under the stand. Sponge or brush Della Blue Elements Inks by Lavinia Stamps over the masked images onto the image panel.

Use a tag die from the Tag It Yourself Die Set 27 by AALL and Create to cut the image panel. Place the base of one of the rectangle dies from the Frayed Frames Die Set 26 by AALL and Create across the tag portion of the die-cut. Secure the die with repositionable tape and run it through your die-cut machine.

Remove the masks from the image panel die-cut and color the girl, stand, and grass with Copic markers.

Cut a piece of patterned paper from the Grunge Mid Tones 6x6 Patterned Paper Pad by Craft Consortium so that it's slightly larger than the die-cut image panel. Use the paper to mat the image panel, then set it aside.

Choose a piece of patterned paper from the Ink Drops - Vivid 6x6 Patterned Paper Pad by Craft Consortium for your background panel and place it onto a stamping platform. Ink the star stamp from the Eclectica ENB02 Rubber Cling Mounted Set by Nicci Battilana for PaperArtsy with white shimmer ink and stamp. Re-ink with gold shimmer ink and stamp again. Move the patterned paper and continue to stamp the stars until the panel is filled with gold stars. Trim the image panel to 4.25" wide and edge it with the gold shimmer ink. Heat set the panel.

Adhere the image panel to the background panel, then adhere the combination to an A6 card.

Use Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink to stamp the nameplate from the Kate Crane KC006 Cling Rubber Stamp Set by PaperArtsy onto one of the scraps of patterned paper. Position the sentiment stamp from the same set so that the sentiment you want to use will be within the nameplate, cover the rest of the sentiments of the stamp with repositionable tape, ink the stamp with Monarch VersaFine Clair Ink, and stamp. Heat set the sentiment plate, fussy-cut it, and edge it with a black pen.

Adhere the sentiment to finish the card.

2025 Spring Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Welcome to the 2025 Spring Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!

Hi friends! Ericka from Strangely Creative here and I'm beyond excited to be part of this year’s Coffee Lovers Blog Hop, and Topflight Stamps is a proud sponsor!

To celebrate our shared love for coffee and crafting, I’m showcasing a card that brews together bold texture, vibrant layers, and (of course) plenty of caffeine-infused inspiration.

For this project, I reached for the stunning AALL & Create “Coffee Time” stamp set—it’s quirky, expressive, and perfect for that art journal-meets-cardmaker aesthetic. The focal point is a stamped cup that radiates comfort and creativity.

But what really makes the magic happen? My background! I pulled out my gel press, layered on Distressed Oxides in Salvaged Patina, Antique Linen, and Aged Mahogany, then lifted the print to create the perfect imperfect texture. Think spilled lattes and sidewalk café tables at dawn.

Next, I layered in the L'Encre Fruity Note set, white heat-embossing the large blossom directly onto the background. It brings a springy pop while keeping the grungy feel intact. I stamped additional florals and detailed them using my Spectrum Noir Watercolor markers—to add a bright pop to everything.

🎨 Tips for Mixed Media Cardmaking with Coffee Flair

  • Don’t clean your gel press between layers—those old layers add beautiful unpredictability.

  • Emboss white on color-rich backgrounds for an ethereal, chalkboard effect.

  • Layer your florals like you would in a bouquet—group in odd numbers and tuck elements slightly behind one another for depth.

  • Trust the mess. Mixed media is about embracing imperfection—like your favorite coffee mug that’s chipped but beloved.

 🎁 Don’t Forget the Fun!
