Flutter Fun with Funky Butterflies

Hello crafty friends! 🌞 Ericka from Strangely Creative here, and I hope your summer is buzzing with sunshine and inspiration. This week, our design team is all aflutter—literally!—because we’re diving into one of my favorite motifs: butterflies. 🦋

Now, I love a good butterfly stamp (I may or may not have a small collection…), but today I’m sharing something extra whimsical—the brand new PaperArtsy Kate Crane 014 set. These funky butterflies stole my heart with their quirky charm, and I had a blast bringing them to life with color.

Let’s talk background magic! ✨ I kicked things off with a gel press print using Lindy’s Magicals—because who doesn’t love a little shimmer and surprise? To add soft texture, I stamped the PaperArtsy Seth Apter ESA44 set in white ink, letting the scripty writing peek through like little secrets in the background.

Next, I reached for the Kate Crane Mini 013 leaf stamps and used Versafine Clair Morning Mist to keep things light and dreamy. I colored them in with PaperArtsy Shadow Mattints, which gave them just the right amount of moody contrast.

Time for the stars of the show! 🌟 I stamped those fabulous butterflies on a separate sheet using Versafine Clair Nocturne for bold, crisp lines. Then came the fun—coloring with PaperArtsy Mattints in Glow, Bellflower, Dragonfly and Foxglove. These paints are so smooth and build-able—perfect for creating soft, layered effects without overpowering the details.

After some fussy cutting (scissors + podcast = my happy place), I fluttered them onto my background, letting them pop off the page. A few gel pen highlights, a hand-drawn border, and a sweet sentiment from the Kate Crane set were the perfect finishing touches.

And voilà—my butterfly card is ready to spread its wings! 🖤

Thanks for hanging out with me today. I hope this little mixed media moment inspires you to grab your butterfly stamps and let your creativity take flight. Have a beautiful, art-filled weekend! 💫

Live in Harmony

Greetings! You've got Kathi back today with another project for this week's Butterfly theme! Topflight Stamps has a wide selection of butterfly and moth-themed products available. Here's a link to take a closer look!

Cut a piece of Bristol Paper or other water-friendly cardstock to 6½" square and place onto a magnetic or craft mat. Place the Entwined Butterflies Stencil by Visible Image over the paper and secure with magnets and/or low-tack tape.

Use 5/8" Stencil Brushes by Lavinia Stamps to stipple ConfettiBlue LagoonViolet Chalk, and Sundance Elements Inks by Lavinia Stamps over the stencil onto the image panel. Use a water-filled Fine Spray Mister by Spectrum Noir and mist water over the panel while the stencil is still in place. Trim the stenciled background to 5¼" square and heavily edge it with Morning Mist VersaFine Clair Ink by Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko. Adhere the background panel to a 5½" square grey card.

Choose patterned papers from the Grunge Mid Tones 6x6 Patterned Paper Pad and the Ink Drops - Vivid 6x6 Patterned Paper Pad by Craft Consortium to match the colors of the stenciled background panel.

Use Nocturne and Morning Mist VersaFine Clair Inks by Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko to stamp the butterflies from the Antisocial Butterfly Clear Polymer Stamp Set by Visible Image onto the patterned papers. Fussy-cut the patterned paper butterflies and edge them with black or grey markers. Adhere the fussy-cut stamped patterned paper butterflies to the card's front and use fine line markers to add antennae.

Choose a sentiment from the Uplifting Sentiment Stickers 6 by Lavinia Stamps and adhere to the bottom right of the card front as shown. Use a Quickie Glue Pinpoint Roller Pen by Sakura to add sequins to the card as a finishing touch.

Butterfly Time

Greetings! It's Tuesday, so you've got Kathi here today to share a project with you. This week our team focus is on Butterflies. Topflight Stamps has a wide selection of butterfly and moth-themed products available. Here's a link to take a closer look!

I've made a card with the Steampunk Butterfly from the TS074 Cling Mounted Stamp Set by Tracy Scott for PaperArtsy, the PS252 Stencil by by Tracy Scott for PaperArtsy, and the PS080 Stencil by Kay Carley for PaperArtsy

Here it is!

Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink by Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko to stamp the Steampunk Butterfly from the TS074 Cling Mounted Stamp Set by Tracy Scott for PaperArtsy twice —  once onto a white panel and once onto repositionable sticker paper.

Use Copic markers to color the butterfly. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version and place it over its counterpart on the image panel as a mask.

Brush or sponge yellow Copic-friendly dye ink over the masked image.

Place the PS252 Stencil by by Tracy Scott for PaperArtsy onto the image panel so that the perimeter of the clock circle is enclosing the butterfly and secure the stencil with magnets and/or low-tack tape.

Sponge or brush Copic-friendly orange dye ink over the stencil onto the masked image panel.

Remove the masks and use Y Copic markers to color the openings in the steampunk butterfly. Trim the image panel to 5⅞" square and edge with the orange dye ink.

Use the same orange ink and the PS080 Stencil by Kay Carley for PaperArtsy to add stenciled butterflies and dragonflies onto the corners of the panel. Use Copic markers to add details to the centers of the insects.

Adhere the image panel to a blue 6" square card.

Bold Blooms & Beautiful Layers: A Mixed Media Card with Petal Power

Hello crafty friends! 🌸 Ericka from Strangely Creative here, and today I’m sharing a mixed media card that’s bursting with color, texture, and one of my favorite stamp sets—Petal Power by AALL & Create! I’ve been a longtime fan of Bipasha BK’s gorgeous designs, and this set is just as dreamy and detailed as ever.

I started with one of my gel press prints from the stash (you do keep those around, right? They’re gold!). I stamped the beautiful floral image using Versafine Clair Twilight ink—such a rich, moody hue—and then added some colored pencil details to make those petals pop. Pro tip: My ink was still a tad damp, so I was able to clear emboss the image right over my coloring for extra shine and texture. Totally accidental, but totally fabulous!

To bring in more dimension and interest, I layered on some of the Cobalt Swallowtail washi tape—I love how it plays against the floral design. For my sentiment, I reached for the Bring On The Sentiments set, which has just the right words for bold, artsy cards like this one.

As a final touch, I drew a loose, hand-sketched frame around the border. It’s a little imperfect, a little whimsical, and just the right finish for this layered, artsy piece.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope this inspires you to mix, layer, stamp, and color your heart out this weekend. Until next time—keep creating!
