Color Blocked Butterflies

Hi Everyone and welcome to the Topflight Stamps blog - it's Jenny here! The clocks went forward in the USA today - ugh - I hate losing an hour. Such a small amount of time yet it really throws your day off!! I thought I'd create a couple of cards to bright up the rest of the day!

Today I am over on the Topflight Stamps blog and I have two cards for you which feature a similar theme - color blocking. I'm using a technique I saw Yana Smakula use recently. I created two panels using sparkly cardstock in rose, pale pink and a sage green by adhering strips to a piece of A2 size cardstock. I then trimmed one of the panels into 1 inch strips and adhered them to a white card base using foam tape, switching each strip but keeping the green down the centre.

I kept each of the cards simple. For this one I used Carabelle Studios Flight of the Butterflies.

I heat embossed one of the butterflies on vellum with metallic silver embossing powder and then fussy cut it out.

I adhered it to the color block strips with a foam strip. I heat embossed the sentiment from For The Love of Stamps Occasion Sentiments in white embossing powder directly onto the color blocks. As a finishing touch I added some clear sequins.

For my second card, before I adhered the panel to a notecard, I used the gorgeous Butterflies Stencil by Alexandra Renke.

I smoothed silver glitter paste all over the panel.

When dry, I adhered it to a white notecard. My sentiment is the Layered Hello by Paper Rose Studio. I die cut it from vellum and some of the card stock left over from creating the color blocking.

I then adhered it the the centre of the card. I added a layer of Diamond Stickles for extra sparkle.

I thought it needed a little something else so I heat embossed the teeny tiny 'Love' sentiment (from an older Alexandra Renke Love Hearts stamp set) onto black cardstock in WOW! Bright White Opaque embossing powder, trimmed it out and popped it up on foam tape. I finished the card with some of the same sparkling clear sequins.

Floral Tag...

Happy day everyone.. Annette Allen here with you today to share this fun tag I creating using 13@arts Stamps: Together stamp set, PaperArtsy: Lacey Scalloped Border & Flow stencil, PaperArtsy: Chalk Acrylics: Wisteria, Mermaid, Caribbean Sea, Gold and Sherbet.

I first created the background with this pretty paint from PaperArtsy. I did not use any brushes just my finger. Get messy and have fun while you create. Once it was dry I used the PaperArtsy: Lacey Scalloped Border & Flow stencil along with the Gold Metallic paint and put a fun pattern on for the background. I also stamped some of the floral images from the stamp set 13@arts Stamps: Together. Then I added more paint. yay for paint.

Finishing up with painting a separate piece of card-stock and then stamping this pretty flower image. I let it dry and cut it out. I added some foam adhesives to give it a little dimension.

Okay But First Coffee

Hello Topflight fans! Ericka here today with a fun Katzelkraft Jungle Animal card. I love this set and all the different ways you can use these animals. This time I decided to pair the elephant with a coffee sentiment.

This is basically me and the way I feel before I've had my morning coffee. I am not a morning person no matter how hard I try.

I did some Distress Oxide ink blending as well as some no line Copic coloring on the elephant. The elephant was a bit of a challenge since it was a smaller image with lots of great details.

Rainy Days and Wednesdays

Hi, Topflight Friends! Toni here with you today. The snow is gone so I thought I would work up a fun card in celebration of warmer times coming.

I'm using the Aall and Create Quack the Duck clear stamp set. These ducks make me chuckle big time! Perfect for snarky and/or cute cards or anything else you can imagine!

Aall and Create Quack the Duck

I started my card by stamping the Aall and Create Quack the Duck critter and sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black and watercoloring them with Zig Realbrush Markers. Actually, wait, I did the background first by sponging Distress Oxides on the card front then using a cover plate to create the rain.

Then I diecut the Aall and Create Quack the Duck critter and sentiment as well as an umbrella. So cute! It tempts me to go and play around in the rain but sugar melts so I best play it safe inside. LOL!

Jane Davenport | Unicorn Sparkle

Hi everyone, it's Jenny here - Happy National Craft Month! I hope you've all had a chance to get crafty this weekend but the month is still young, and there's plenty of time if you didn't!

Today I'm joining you with a sparkly card using the Spellbinders/Jane Davenport Unicorn Sparkle stamp set. I just love the sketch look of this set and I'm a sucker for anything with Unicorns on it!

This card was super simple to create. I started with an A2 panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock and using a cloud stencil, I created a very subtle ink blended pink cloud background. I left it to dry a little and then treated it with my powder tool. I then heat embossed the Unicorn in metallic silver embossing powder. The clouds do show through but are very subtle and we'll be covering it up shortly.

I colored the Unicorn in with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers in pinks and blue greys for the mane and tail. I also added a layer of Clear Wink of Stella over its body for the sparkle. The sentiment was stamped in the top directly onto the panel in light grey pigment ink.

To complement the sketchy look of the Unicorn, I stamped the star from the set several times on the background using the same pink ink, but stamped it off onto scrap paper first to get a pale color. 

I then added some spatters of the grey ink with a paintbrush and some water and dabbed them off with a paper towel before they dried.




As a finishing touch I added a pink gem to the Unicorn's eye and backed the entire panel to a white notecard. You can check out the other supplies I used over on my blog.   Have a great day all!

Hello Friend...

Happy March everyone. Annette Allen here with you today. Today I created a simple card using Stamperia: Flower Stencil and Creative Expressions: Stylish Script stamp set. The stencil I used is sold out but there are lots of amazing stencils to choose from at Topflight Stamps. 

You can create fun backgrounds using stencils. 

I embossed the sentiment in gold and that is it. I stenciled the background using oxide inks but you can really use any inks you like when it comes to stencils. You can even use paints or embossing paste. Get creative and have fun.
