Hello, Topflight Fans!  Toni here with you today. The weather is getting nicer which always puts me in the mood for bright and colorful everything. This card certainly fits the bill.

I started the card by stamping Visible Image Creative Chaos with Versafine Onyx Black onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper. I  then masked the flowers using Liquid Frisket.

Once the Liquid Frisket had dried, I applied Peerless Watercolors willy nilly. I used a tiny bit of Brushos too. After drying, I gently rubbed off the Liquid Frisket and got to work adding additional layers of texture, color and design.

I started by stamping one of the Visible Image Creative Chaos images in a light coating of Dreamer Glossy White Embossing Paste. Be sure to remove that from your stamp as soon as you're done!

This pic also shows the lovely pattern created by the Aall and Create Quadrilaterals Stencil and Distress Ink Mustard Yellow.

I added a bit of the stencil up top too. I love how the yellow blends and creates other colors.

Next I added the tiny sentiments from Aall and Create Textures #50 which gave me the idea to use the Alexandra Renke Kiss the Cook Stencil masked off. Of course, the diecut lips (no idea what that's from) are so perfect for this!

AALL & Create | Combing Metallics with Jenny

Hi everyone and welcome to the Topflight Stamps blog!

It's Jenny here,  and today I'm using Rose Gold glitter paste with a gorgeous AALL & Create Mosaic stencil to create my background.

I laid down the stencil over the top of some pale pink cardstock and smoothed the Rose Gold glitter paste over the top, making sure to line up the stencil so that the pattern was even on all sides. I then set it aside to dry.

While they panel was drying, I thought it would be fun to combine metallics, so I die cut the Jane Davenport Fair Feathers die from silver mirror cardstock. When the panel was dry, I adhered it to the background using a strip of foam tape in the centre.

I needed a large sentiment to cover up the foam strip, so using a panel of slightly darker pink cardstock, I heat embossed this sentiment from Katzelkraft's Fun Quotes - Darkside in Rose Gold embossing powder, to co-ordinate with the background.

I die cut it with a deckle edge frame and then popped it over the feather with more foam tape.

Timeless Tulips...

Happy April and yay for Friday... Annette Allen here with you today to share this card I created using Darkroom Door: Timeless Tulips. Tulips just happen to be my most favorite flower so I really adore this stamp.

I embossed the image on some watercolor paper and then did a little watercoloring. This stamp is so pretty and fun to create with.

This card is totally simple to create besides doing the watercolor which you might know it not really hard to do. All I had to do was to highlight those pretty flowers. I used a misc. die cut frame and that is it.

White Crayon Resist with Small Flowers

Hello Topflight fans and a happy Thursday to all of you. Ericka, here with another white crayon resist card using small flowers and Distress Oxide Blending.

I wanted to see how well the white crayon would work with some ink blending and small flowers. I think it did a pretty good job. I stamped the image in Versfine Sepia ink and then used the white crayon to color in the small flowers to keep them white.

After blending the Distress Oxides, I lightly wiped down the image and the ink on the white crayon came right off, leaving the white flowers!

Poppy Sympathy

Hi, Everybody! Toni here.  This week we are featuring Darkroom Door collage stamps and the Darkroom Door White Crayon.  This was really interesting as I've never used a resist crayon before and was surprised by the results.

I started my card by stamping a barely there version of the Darkroom Door Pretty Poppies on my card front which then allowed me to more easily place the Darkroom Door White Crayon where I thought it would be most effective--around the frame and among the text.

I then stamped the poppies with Versafine Vintage Sepia so I could watercolor with Zigs. It was easy to see the resist happening as the water beaded up over those areas.

Next I worked more on the background behind the poppies, adding additional Zig shadows and Distress Oxide bricks and spots of the Visible Image Meshing Around stencil.

Now what really surprised me is what happened when I used a heatgun to speed up the drying of the watercolor.  The Darkroom Door White Crayon disappeared!  I still had the white resisted parts but now was afforded the opportunity to add even more layers of color to those formerly covered areas if I chose.  So cool! I did end up coloring more of the poppies that had been part of the resist before but otherwise I left it as is.

Darkroom Door Resist Technique

Today I have a spring card to share with you made with one of the wonderful Darkroom Door Collage Stamps and their resist crayon.

I was inspired by Lindsay Weirich's video about the resist technique she used for the Collage Stamps and crayon. (Watch it and you'll get some great tips!) After stamping the image onto watercolor paper with archival ink, I watercolored the butterflies yellow and the ferns green. I added the resist crayon over the areas I had painted on the ferns and over some parts of the yellow painted wings on the butterflies. I went back over the butterflies with orange paint and the crayon preserved yellow portions by resisting the orange.

The crayons are softer than standard 'school' crayons and cover well.

I added some more crayon over the butterflies again and as a final step, I painted a wash of blue over the whole thing for the background. It was really easy with the resist protecting the ferns and butterflies. I went right over the top and the colors didn't get muddied. Fun and easy!

Darkroom Door Daffodils with Crayon Resist

Hi Everyone, Jenny here!



The team have a fun technique to showcase this week.  We are using the the Darkroom Door White Crayon to create some fun effects. 

For my card I used the Darkroom Door Dear Daffodils stamp. 

I stamped the image onto hot press watercolor cardstock using Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I then used the crayon to highlight a few areas on the petals of the daffodils by drawing a small line on what would be the lightest part of the petal.  I then watercolored (with pan watercolors, Topflight carries these by Studio Light) the daffodils in yellow.  The paper resists the paint wherever there is crayon,  and the image remains white in those areas.

I then used the crayon again in a few places and then watercolored over with orange-yellow.  This second layer of crayon resists the orange-yellow and allows the yellow from the first layer to peep through.  I then used a dark orange for a third layer to add shadow (no more crayon added this time) and a tiny bit of brown.   

For the background, I painted it with sage green and then when dry, added hints of crayon in random areas.  I then went over it again with a darker sage green and you can see where the crayon resisted the paint and added texture to the background. 

I trimmed out the image and used craft foam to mount it onto a white card base.  The sentiment is from For the Love of Stamps Occasions Inserts and was stamped in brown ink and trimmed out. 

As a finishing touch I added a few clear droplet embellishments to the petals.
