Hello Topflight Stamp fans – I'd like to introduce our November Guest Designer, Mary Szymanski! We are excited to see what she's going to cook up for us this month. Here is a little bit about her:
I am a wife and mom living in Southeastern Michigan. I’m a self taught Mixed Media Artist who loves to work with color and texture. I usually work small, on ATCs, small journal pages and canvases. I’ve been known to work on bigger canvases a time or two. I enjoy sharing my work and teaching budding artists how to make their own projects with fun textures and supplies.
Now check out this cool mixed media tag she's created for her first project! Read on for her directions on how this came together:
Hi, crafty friends! Mary Szymanski here on the Topflight Stamps Blog as the November Guest Designer showing you how I used some wonderful stamps you can get on Topflight Stamps to create this fun tag.
I started off by swiping a #8 manila tag through watered down distress inks in greens and blues. I love the abstract look of that technique. Kind of looks like the sky and trees to me.
I then took the beautiful Carabelle Studio Indian Inspired #1 by Birgit Koopsen stamp (pictured below) and stamped it all around the tag with brown distress ink with and without water sprayed on the stamp. The image is not whole or perfect and that's what I was going for. It makes the tag a little grungy looking.
I also used the brown ink to edge the tag.
I stamped the beautiful Lavinia Crow Drake Stamp (pictured below) in the bottom right corner. I ripped brown and white chevron washi tape and made a "branch" for the crow to stand on.
To add a few more focal points, I stamped the small flower from the PaperArtsy JOFY 64 set (pictured below) on white cardstock and colored them with light green, orange and yellow markers, cut them out and glued them down. Then I drew in the stems and colored them in with a green paint pen.
I made some marks on the bottom of the tag with a green paint pen to make "grass". For a final touch, I added a black and white quote sticker which says, "there is beauty in simplicity".
I tied some fancy string and seam binding through the hole and viola!
Here are some closeups of the finished tag:
I hope you are inspired by this project I created using Topflight Stamps and want to create a fun tag of your own!
